A KERNEL OF WHEAT – JOHN 12:24

WHEAT is a cereal of the most important kind grown in temperature countries, the grain of which is ground to make flour for bread, pasta, pastries, and other baking products. Like other foods that are full of nutrition, the wheat also offers plenty of health assistance that our body requires and it is widely considered as a vital component in any baking measures. What does the bible say about wheat? When the Israelites were still wandering in the desert, the Lord came and told them to observe all of His commands because He will be carrying them into a good land flowing with milk and honey which also includes land with wheat and barley, Deuteronomy 8:8. We can see that in the divine provisions of the Lord to the Israelites, He also gave WHEAT as food. Today, wheat is still a major source of food for many people and a limited supply of it can cause a major blow to the industry and could even affect the prices of other goods in the market.

When Jesus said, “unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”, He was revealing the kind of sacrifice that He will go through and the power of resurrection. Jesus himself is the kernel of wheat. He is the bread of life. Jesus had to die for the penalty of our sins, but also to show His power over death. His death wasn’t just a customary thing that should be taken lightly because He didn’t just fall for nothing. There would be no kernels today without that single seed who was buried and rose. Rightfully so, this was the kind of sacrifice and the kind of commitment that the Lord wants to communicate to His former disciples and us as His later disciples. We have to be committed to living for Christ that we “disregard” our own lives by comparison. How can we a mortal man could do that? It is not necessarily that we long to die or we become careless and destructive of the life that God has given us, but that we should be willing to die if doing so will glorify the Lord. Our love for the Lord causes us to obey everything that He commands. To be worthy and be a vital piece in producing many seeds into the kingdom of God, we have to allow ourselves to be a kernel of wheat that is willing to be sacrificed and disbursed off to harvest plenty. We must disown the master of self-will in our lives by laying aside our struggle for self-centeredness, security, and pleasure. Our sacrifices to God mean a lot when we are doing it out of love for Him. Are you willing then to be a kernel of wheat?
