PSALM 90:12

“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Unlike our ancestors who lived a hundred years and more, the average lifetime of man nowadays is too short and the number of individuals that get closed or have reached the century mark is becoming few. During the creation, death was not yet involved because God intended that man was supposed to live with Him in eternity. The man was enjoying the presence of God and all His provisions in the garden until they disobeyed Him. Immediately after that, the man was nowhere near the comfortable life that they were experiencing because they were cast out from the paradise of Eden. That moment was the entry of death to all mankind. The immortal man became mortal and never to live again afar from death.   Although the man didn’t instantly die physically, they suffered the consequences of dying spiritually.

Many generations had passed yet the call of death is still inevitable. The same fate is awaiting to both young and old without exemption and without notice. Realizing that life is too short would help us to make use of our little time we have to live wisely and for an eternal cause. Are we living our lives the way God wanted us to be? Moses prayed to God and asked Him to “teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Knowing that our days are numbered, we want our sacrifices to count, to be effective and more productive. As it is better to be prepared than to be sorry when our time has come. Know your purpose then and live for God because life is too short.
